Water is the main cause of long-term damage to historic stone and masonry. It carries dissolved salts into the pores, and when it freezes, the expansion cracks the material from inside. Conventional coatings seal the surface and trap moisture behind it, making this worse. Vetro Power nano coatings penetrate the substrate and coat the pore walls with a water-repellent layer, without sealing them shut. The surface can still breathe. Rain runs off, dirt does not stick, and moss and algae have nothing to grow on. The stone looks exactly the same as before treatment.
Vetro Power coatings are used on listed buildings, government monuments, temples, war memorials, heritage railway stations and colonial-era facades across India, the UAE, the UK and Australia. A concentrated version of Vetro Power Porous Stone Protector is available for large-scale conservation projects.
Water repellency: rain and moisture bead off the surface
Vapour permeability: moisture trapped inside can still escape
Anti-soiling: airborne dirt and pollutants do not adhere
Biological resistance: moss, algae and lichen growth is inhibited
Frost protection: water cannot penetrate to cause freeze-thaw spalling
What stays the same
Surface colour and tone: no darkening, whitening or gloss change
Surface texture: rough, polished or carved profiles are unchanged
Substrate breathability: the building envelope continues to regulate moisture
Material patina: existing weathered character is not stripped or altered
Structural integrity: no solvent attack, no swelling, no blistering
Products for historic buildings
Vetro Power Porous Stone Protector
Water-based SiO2 nano coating for porous natural stone: sandstone, limestone, granite and marble. Superhydrophobic. Penetrates the substrate rather than forming a surface film. The treated surface looks the same as the untreated one. A concentrated version is available for large-scale conservation projects.
Vetro Power Porous Stone Protect – High Performance Moss Prevention
Water-based SiO2 nano coating with integrated moss and algae prevention. For porous substrates where biological growth is an active problem. Superhydrophobic and oleophobic.
Polysilazane nanotechnology coating for stone, brick, concrete and metal. Superhydrophobic, oleophobic, transparent and chemical-resistant. Graffiti is removed without solvent damage to the substrate. Used on high-visibility heritage structures and public monuments.
Silicon dioxide sol-gel coating for polished marble, granite, engineered stone, porcelain and high-density ceramic. Hydrophobic and oleophobic. PFOA-free and PFAS-free. No change in look or feel.
SiO2 and solvent-based superhydrophobic and oleophobic nano coating for iron, bronze, steel and stainless steel. Used on railings, ornamental ironwork, bronze statues, plaques and memorial tablets alongside stone treatment on mixed-material facades.
Inspect and clean the substrate. Remove loose material, biological growth and any existing film-forming coatings. The substrate must be dry before application.
2
Condition assessment
Identify spalls, cracks and voids. Apply any required consolidant or repair mortar and allow to cure fully before coating.
3
Apply the coating
Apply by brush, roller or low-pressure spray. The product penetrates into the substrate rather than forming a surface film.
4
Cure
Allow to cure before rain exposure. Full performance is reached within 24 hours under normal temperature conditions.

Frequently asked questions
Will the coating change the appearance of the stone?
No. Vetro Power heritage coatings are transparent. They do not alter surface colour, tone or texture. The treated surface looks the same as the untreated one.
Can moisture trapped inside the wall still escape?
Yes. The coating is vapour-permeable. Unlike film-forming coatings that seal the surface and trap moisture, Vetro Power coatings allow water vapour to pass through from inside.
What happens to existing moss or algae before application?
Biological growth must be treated and removed before the coating is applied. The coating then inhibits re-colonisation. Vetro Power Porous Stone Protect with High Performance Moss Prevention is used where biological growth is an active problem on the substrate.
Can it be applied to wet or damp stone?
No. The substrate must be thoroughly dry before application. Applying to damp stone prevents proper penetration and bonding.
Does it protect against graffiti?
Vetro Power Nano-Dynamis Anti-Graffiti Coating is used for graffiti-resistant treatment on heritage structures. It is applied to stone, brick, concrete and metal. Graffiti is removed without solvent damage to the substrate.
Can it be used on iron and bronze alongside stone in the same programme?
Yes. Vetro Power Metal Protect covers iron and bronze elements. Both products can be applied in the same treatment programme across mixed-material facades.
Is there a product for large-scale conservation projects?
Yes. A concentrated version of Vetro Power Porous Stone Protector is available for large-scale conservation work.
Is the coating reversible?
The coating bonds to the substrate at a molecular level rather than forming a removable surface film. Where reversibility is required, contact Vetro Power with details of the substrate and project.
