Top Hotels in India Adopt PFOA-Free Nanotechnology for Upholstery Protection

Leading Indian hotels and institutions are adopting Vetro Power's PFOA-free nanotechnology to protect upholstery, fabric, stone and glass, cutting cleaning and extending surface life.

India's hospitality, aviation, and cultural infrastructure sectors are shifting their focus from visible design to long-term material performance, and nanotechnology surface protection is becoming a central part of that change. Vetro Power Advanced Material Care, the nanocoating surface protection arm of Zyax Chem, reports growing adoption of its coatings across leading hotels, infrastructure projects, and cultural institutions.

Vetro Power's PFOA-free, non-toxic coatings have been applied at luxury properties including Taj Lands End Mumbai, St. Regis, Sofitel Mumbai, Soho House, Hilton Mumbai, and Four Seasons Mumbai, at large public infrastructure such as Kempegowda International Airport, and at cultural landmarks including the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. The coatings are also used by major groups including Lodha, TATA, JSW, the Adani Group, Accor, Royal Enfield, INOX, PVR, the Aditya Birla Group, and the Hiranandani Group.

The coatings work at a nanoscopic level, forming ultra-thin, invisible, breathable layers that repel liquids, resist stains, and reduce long-term wear. Modelled on the natural lotus effect, they protect fabric and upholstery, carpets, stone and marble, and glass without changing their appearance or texture. Published research on nanocoated textiles reports water contact angles above 140° and reductions in liquid absorption of up to 88% in controlled studies, which makes it much harder for spills and contaminants to penetrate treated surfaces.

Across Vetro Power's hospitality and institutional projects, operators report a significant reduction in liquid and stain absorption on treated fabric, stone, and glass, a lower deep-cleaning frequency and reduced chemical use, and a longer lifespan for high-traffic furnishings, carpets, marble, and glass. Adoption now spans more than 20 countries. Hotels relying on the coatings also include Accor properties in Vadodara, Hyatt Hampi, The Park Hotel Mumbai, Meluha The Fern Mumbai, and The Landmark Towers Kanpur.

Vetro Power's portfolio includes PFOA-free, PFOS-free, and PFAS-free variants that comply with REACH, RoHS, and ZDHC MRSL standards, making them suitable for occupied spaces such as guest rooms, restaurants, and public areas.

Cyrus Irani, Brand Head and Director of Operations at Asilo St Regis Rooftop Restobar, said the venue's experience with Vetro Power Fabric and Upholstery Protection had been outstanding, protecting against spills, stains, and daily wear while preserving the texture and appearance of the upholstery and improving maintenance efficiency.

India's hospitality sector is in a strong growth phase. The World Travel and Tourism Council reports the sector contributed over Rs 22 lakh crore to India's GDP in 2024, and IBEF projects industry revenues above US$ 59 billion by 2028. As new luxury supply and infrastructure investment grow, demand for durability-focused surface protection is rising alongside.
